WE FEED PEOPLE

We are immensely proud to announce that We Feed People, a chronicle of how Andrés and his nonprofit providing healthy food to those affected by disasters, has been nominated for two Prime-time Emmys! One for Outstanding Documentary, and the other, Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program, for which our our two filmmakers and co-founders Alicia Sully and Sebastian Lindstrom have been personally nominated.

Our team first met Jose at the Tedx Summit in Doha in May 2012. We were there filming and taking photos. After realizing that he was a chef, we offered him camel milk, he said we should come to Haiti sometime!

A few months later, in August 2012, we landed in Haiti to meet him. We shadowed his work and filmed what we could; just as we were doing with other NGOs at the time. We made a profile film and soon after that, we launched into creating a tv show together. Produced by National Geographic and screened on PBS, ‘Undiscovered Haiti’ focused on food tourism in Haiti, and aimed to help shift negative narratives about the country and encourage travelers to visit.

We’ve been working with World Central Kitchen even since, and have documented their important work of responding to disasters in over 20 countries. The dream has always been to make a documentary about Jose and WCK. Eventually Ron Howard convinced Jose that he might be the best person to unlock the hidden message that inspires the work… which is that one plate of food can change the trajectory for people affected by disaster and hardship. One plate of food is hope, one plate of food is humanity at its greatest.

It’s been incredible to watch 10 years’ worth of our footage, our work and our lives encapsulated in a film. It’s curious how so much has stayed the same while at the same time, so much has changed; and yet, this still feels like its just beginning somehow!
