What is What Took You So Long?

Movement – WTYSL is a movement to raise awareness of unsung issues, stories, people and NGOs in order to promote engagement and create positive change. Our mission is to raise awareness, provoke discussion and initiate change. Collaboration, innovation and online and offline movements are the ways WTYSL makes waves.

Foundation – WTYSL is a public foundation that uses the medium of film to communicate stories from remote areas of the world. Working largely through crowd funding WTYSL is a democratic foundation, supported by its fans, connecting people through passion for issues.

Our philosophy

Travel and live as locals – To travel and stay as an equal, and to share the burdens as well as the joys of our hosts.

Interaction – The best way to learn, to be inspired, and to inspire others.

Awareness – The first step on the road to progress.

We mount expeditions to:

Discover – Traveling and living with communities, we experience first hand the issues people are facing in less well-documented regions of the world, and hear from the people themselves about the work of people and organisations they feel are making a positive difference to their lives.

Document – We document, through film, the lives, experiences and stories of those with whom we travel and stay, providing an online platform and avenue for their lives and stories to be distributed through local and international media platforms and through our sponsors.

Network – The WTYSL Foundation is a network for grassroots NGOs and conscientious people to share information, knowledge and skills, providing small NGOs access to experts in the fields of humanitarian work and sustainable development.

Inspire – Each journey we hope will inspire other young people to travel with the community in mind, and through the WTYSL Foundation be able to both have a genuinely global mindset and help raise awareness and positive change.

Volunteer– We are global and nomadic. Send us your C.V. and tell us what you want to do. We’ll connect you with people and projects we know about and you can join us.

Intern – The What Took You So Long Foundation relies on interns with various skills. We provide plenty of real work for you to do wherever you are in the world. The only person you’ll make tea for is yourself. Apply for an internship here.
