handinhand

Hand in Hand is a non-profit organisation that works with entrepreneurship as an effective, long-term and sustainable way of combatting poverty. Since they started, Hand In Hand has trained over 2.6 million people in their self-help groups, which has resulted in the corresponding number of start-ups and over 4 million jobs. This means that almost 20 million people have created long-term improved living conditions with the help of Hand In Hand. The families can now eat well and the children can go to school and not have to work. Hand In Hand also works to improve people's health, local environment and knowledge of their democratic rights.

Hand In Hand mainly focuses on poor and vulnerable women, who are vital to development work because they have an important social and economic impact on both the family and society. Studies show that women generally invest 90% of their income on family well-being, while the corresponding figure for men is 30-40%. Educating and empowering women is therefore the key to eradicating poverty.

As part of our role with the Swedish branch of Hand In Hand, we created a short video on their work in Zimbabwe. Ghinwa filmed on the ground, and the team in Sweden edited the video, which showcases several women who are able to make a living and live comfortably with the entrepreneurial skills they have learnt through Hand In Hand.
