- At Falouna (Marrakech, Morocco)
- We start our journey as guests of Hakim, who runs At Falouna, an orphanage for street children in Marrakech. At Falouna provides shelter, guidance and helps reintegrate vulnerable and homeless children with their families.
- Sahrawi Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (Smara, Western Sahara)
- In Western Sahara we meet with leading political and human rights activists campaigning against the Moroccan occupation to listen to and document their side of forgotten conflict.
- Doulos Community (Nouakchott, Mauritania)
- Karen Boyle and Andrew Dymock of Doulos Community, a grass root NGO working to empower poor communities, give us a tour of their education and capacity building programmes in the Arafat district of Nouakchott.
- Mali Health Project (Bamako, Mali)
- In Bamako we meet Caitlin Cohen, the inspirational founder of the Mali Health Project. She explains to us the issues most affecting the poor and otherwise neglected communities on the outskirts of the city, and the importance of facilitating dialogue between community leaders and the government.
- Association L’aibre D’enface (Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso)
- In Bobo Dioulasso we stay with Fisher Barnabe, the colourful founder of the city’s only orphanage for street children. In his compound we learn the importance of being culturally sensitive when caring for children of a different culture.
- Child Support (Wa, Ghana)
- Eric Coomans of Child Support hosts us in the Upper West region of Ghana. Child Support provides much needed healthcare and educational support to children and vulnerable mothers most in need.
- Light for Children (Kumasi, Ghana)
- Light for Children is a grass root NGO providing emotional and healthcare support to children affected by HIV. Yaw Otcha explains to us the the importance of home visits and personal contact when helping people live with HIV.
- Goodness and Mercy Missions (Belo, Cameroon)
- Pastor Francis Teh Yai, who founded the Goodness and Mercy Missions in his local community in Jinkfuin village, Belo, shows us how much can be achieved with truly grass root resources.
- Chia Jobain Healthcare Common Initiative Group (Belo, Cameroon)
- Nehoji Jobain Cosmas, the programme co-ordinator of the Chia Jobain Heathcare Common Initiative Group, explains to us the advantages of day centres for those needy children that have been the real victims of the collapse in coffee economy more than a decade ago.
- Green Eyes in Africa (Yaounde, Cameroon)
- In Yaounde we visit the children’s sanctuary Ryan Oliver Hansen, a young American with an amazing story, has struggled to establish for the benefit of abused orphans.
- Association des Jeunes de la Rue pour le Development (Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo)
- In Kinshasa we experience first hand the plight and danger of being street child in one of Africa’s most unstable cities. Pierre Mahengo Mwama, a young medical student and founder of the Association des Jeunes de la Rue pour le Development, tells us his story.
- Escola de Professors do Futurro (Caxito, Angola)
- The Escola de Professors do Futurro hosts us in Caxito, where we learn from the schools director, Anne Lausen, how sometimes development work must be a long term commitment.
- Norwegian Church Aid (Wako Kongo, Angola)
- We accompany Malvin Ommedal, a technical adviser to Norwegian Church Aid’s water and sanitation projects, to Wako Kongo to see how a well has transformed the lives of people living in a small village.
- Save the Children (Huambo, Angola)
- Douglas Steinberg, the National Director of Save the Children, introduces us to a home grown hero, Adelino Saujaufe, the Provincial Co-ordinator for Huambo. Adelino gives us a tour of the new HIV testing centre and we meet and observe peer education in action.
- Beautiful Kidz (Windhoek, Namibia)
- In Windhoek we are hosted by Brian Kinghorn of Youth With A Mission, a Christian organisation that runs the Beautiful Kidz Day Centre. Beautiful Kidz provides security, education and moral guidance to the most needy children in Karatua, one of Namibia’s most poverty stricken townships.
- Dr Hendrik Wuebben (Windhoek, Namibia)
- We visit Dr Hendrik Wuebben of Karatua State Hospital to hear his remarkable story and document the work he is doing in the emergency room of one of Namibia’s most notoriously demanding hospitals.
- Hoops 4 Hope (Cape Town, South Africa)
- Bayari Rogerio Skade, Program Co-ordinator of Soccer 4 Hope, shows us how their sports programs play an important role in empowering young people in the Mpungutye township.
- Born Free Ministries (Plettenberg, South Africa)
- In prosperous Plettenberg we visit Pastor Allan Jubber, founder of the Born Free Ministries. We follow him on his crusade to empower the poor Black and Coloured communities of Kurland Village and Mandela Park, and help them fight a culture of alcohol, drugs and violence.
