Partnerships: The University of Hong Kong – African Studies Programme

We are proud to cooperate with the African Studies Programme at the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the oldest University in the Special Administrative Region.  The programme will work closely with the What Took You So Long (WTYSL) movement to connect with NGOs, officials, media and sponsors in and outside of Africa.

In the summer of 2009, HKU will introduce a new Minor in African Studies, the first and currently only programme of its kind in Hong Kong and southern China. The programme aims to explore Africa from an intensely interdisciplinary perspective.  The main goals of the new minor are:

  • To develop an historical, cultural, and linguistic understanding of Africa to provide local expertise for China’s burgeoning economic, cultural and diplomatic relationship with that continent
  • To foster communication and interaction between African and Chinese students and citizens
  • To cooperate in HKU’s newly internationalizing and competitive curriculum, in part by providing courses for the intercultural core curriculum requirements

We are honoured to have this academic expertise by our side.
