NGOs in Ghana

We have a full list of NGO sponsors and beneficiaries throughout our African journey but have especially finalized our stopovers in Ghana.  One of us, Sebastian, has extensive experience with a prominent NGO in Kumasi and that NGO has become a springboard for action throughout the small West African country.  It is uplifting to know that a small group of intrepid travellers, backed by an extensive network of NGOs and corporate sponsors abroad, can make so much difference in such a short period of time!

We can now confirm a full list of NGOs that we will work with when we ride through Ghana. We will enter the upper west region of Ghana from Burkino Faso at the Ghanain border town of Hamale. Thereafter we will ride over to Hain and work with the NGO Rural Aid Action Program (Ghana) – the organization strives to partner with international development agencies, government, communities, and civil society groups to develop Ghana’s poorest regions.

From Hain we will head south to Wa where we will meet up with Eric Coomans, a Dutchman, and his NGO
Child Support – Ghana. Child Support-Ghana tries to contribute by improving the quality of life of the needy women and children in this region. Their website is currently only in Dutch but you will still get a clear understanding of the amazing contribution they have done to the community of Wa by checking it out.

From Upper West Ghana we will transport yourselves down to Kumasi in the central parts of Ghana; aka Ashanti region. Light for Children (Ghana), a prominent supporter of our movement, will coordinate an event with us for the 50+ HIV positive children the NGO sponsors.

From Kumasi we will ride down to Accra, the capital, and will from there drive via Aflao to cross the border into Togo’s capital Lome – Summer 09 is upon us sooner than we think.

In the past years the organization has try to do a lot but due to lack of funding and paid staffs, many of our program was not touched. So we have decided to learn from other organizations (both locally and international) to gain more for our work.

As at the moment, we have about 60 children under our care. These children attend various schools in our districts. We need to do more to be able to care for them properly. We are therefore appealing to your organization to include Jomelos in any training, workshops, conferences concerning children, women or funds that we can participate and learn and bring also input.

You can still locate us at AIRPORT RIDGE near the Taxi station.
